  • Historic landmark...church...cornerstone of the community...sanctuary...gathering place...cultural center. The Shrine of Christ the King is all these things, with the Mass and liturgy as its central focus, anchoring and unifying everything that is done here. Daily Mass, weekly devotions, and an ever-increasing schedule of cultural events, spiritual education, and social gatherings make this imposing building hum with life.

It’s the people, though, the “living stones” that give it that special character—a welcoming and familial atmosphere that builds on the shared faith to create a true community. The priests who serve the congregation here live and work in the neighborhood and are always available to whoever is in need of the sacraments, a friendly chat, spiritual direction, or a pickup game of hockey or baseball… The people who come from over an hour away and those right down the street have a special camaraderie that they’re always willing to share, and the relationships forged here extend beyond the “see you on Sunday” variety.

The beauty and reverence and spiritual richness found in the liturgy are made even more profound by the truly catholic experience of being united in spirit with those present, both in church and throughout the week.

  • Since 2007, I have been going to the Shrine of Christ the King. To tell you the truth, this Shrine, run by the priests of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, is a citadel of Catholic Culture and Spirituality. Please come to at least one of its many devotions, whether it be the Tuesday novena to Saint Therese of the Child Jesus or to Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays, and be nourished by word and sacrament with the rich tradition of the Catholic Church. The Shrine is also unique because Holy Mass is celebrated daily in the Traditional Latin Rite (or Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite). What I think is also a very beneficial aspect is the sacrament of reconciliation (confessions) daily before each Mass. Most churches set aside only one hour each week for confessions, but having daily confessions makes going to the sacraments so much easier, especially if you have a very busy work schedule.
Please come and support this great work of the Institute and be filled with many graces and blessings from the Infant Jesus the King. Light a candle in honor of Jesus and know that your intentions will be remembered.
When you become part of the Shrine, whether it be just for the First Saturday devotions, for Spiritual Direction, for the "Getting Acquainted with Aquinas" lectures (monthly conferences on the teachings of Saint Thomas Aquinas), for its great free musical concerts, or simply to find peace and quiet in the presence of Jesus, you become part of a great spiritual worldwide family, something that we all need. Don't be shy and please visit. It did a lot of good for me and my family and friends, through the Grace of God.

  • The Shrine of Christ the King is a unique gem in the city of Chicago! I was here visiting from out of town for the weekend of Open House Chicago and received such warm hospitality and generosity from the priests of the Shrine as well as the Shrine's parishioners. When I first walked in one of the priests was kind enough to give me an extensive tour of the inside of the church. It was amazing- everything from its magnificent architecture to its statues, side altars, and main altar was so uplifting to the soul. I was really fortunate to attend the Tridentine Solemn High Mass which the Shrine graciously offers to the public regularly. The Mass felt like the celestial experience of Heaven on Earth as it is in reality. It truly takes you into another realm. It was deeply satisfying from a spiritual sense and I cannot wait to visit again! Highly recommend it to anyone!!

  • The Shrine of Christ the King is what makes Chicago my "home away from home"! The vibrant and sincere Catholic community at the Shrine always brings such joy! Whether you live nearby or 6 hours away (like me!), you are always welcomed by the Canons and faithful in this community. Not only does the Shrine offer a welcoming atmosphere, but one filled with spiritual support through the sacraments (particularly the beautiful reverence of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass), spiritual direction, and encouragement of the Catholic laity. I can't wait to visit again!

  • Not only does the Shrine of Christ the King have the most beautiful thing this side of heaven, but the Priests, Oblates, and faithful have worked--and are still working--hard to create a culture of life and family rooted in our beautiful Catholic faith.
At the Shrine, one may find nourishment for mind, body, and soul. Here are offered the Sacraments, of course--particularly Confession, which is available for 30 minutes before EVERY Mass, and sometimes continues during and after Mass--but also plenty of good food and fellowship: the monthly Getting Acquainted with Aquinas lectures provide real intellectual meat, and they are always followed by a delicious dinner buffet. Cultural events, such as Classical and Baroque music concerts or architectural lectures, are frequently offered, and beautiful devotions and spiritual conferences mark every First Friday and First Saturday.
As a spiritual family, we also take the time to have fun together: post-Mass ice skating, picnics, and movie screenings encourage us to sanctify the Lord's Day and take some much-needed recreation.
In short, the Shrine of Christ the King is a spiritual home, wherein we receive the grace and strength to go out into the world and strive to live courageously for our Infant King.
