Voted Most Beautiful U.S. Church in 2016; world renowned organist Corrado Cavalli accompanying most of the Hl. Masses. Masses according to the new rite (Novo Ordo) in vernacular (English language) as well as in Latin language with Gregorian Chant, and pre-Vatican II Tridentine Masses every Sunday. There are language classes available for ecclesiastical Latin, classical Geek and Hebrew

If i could rate this church a zero i would...like others on this board i had a completely creepy vibe of this church and especially the priest who didn't even know the future husbands name. Would never go back.

Creepy vibe. The priests and canons walk around mechanically in the church in old-fashioned 19th century garb with their large rosaries jingling, even during Mass - which is intimidating. Shouldn't they be praying with us? Or are they exempt from communal worship? They also sound like a cult of zealous robots when praying devotions or the Liturgy of the hours together. It is frightening and does not seem heartfelt or natural. The same is true during Mass or Confession. It just feels like they are motorized wax statues in a Disney theme ride going through pre-programmed motions.
The church itself feels more like a museum than a living worship space, and the worshippers like antiquarians delighted by the artistic novelties rather than the living God in the Eucharist. One word describes it best: creepy.Added October 09, 2016 by Jonathan Smythe - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
What an amazing church! I've been overseas and visited so many in my life, but my son and I stumbled upon this one by accident one Sunday morning. We were arriving from the airport on our way back home, when we decided to look for a nearby church for morning mass. I've only attended high mass- and never in Chicago- a few times so this was a pretty incredible experience to share with my son. It was very authentic. From the moment you climb the church's front steps, to entering the foyer, you are struck with awe and reverence. There are statues behind iron gates by each door, that you notice right away. The main doors to the cathedral are left closed during service, so parishioners wait and talk in the Lobby. It seems modest and the scripture and paint on the ceiling seems old and worn. A lot of the attendees are European foreigners, who speak in their native tongue. They dress in traditional Sunday church attire, more formal than other parishes I've visited. There is a small but interesting museum like room on the right side which also sells some religious artifacts, cds, and prayer books. When you finally enter the main cathedral however it is remarkably ostentatious compared to its humble foyer. You are overwhelmed by the huge marble columns, statuesque galleries, gold gilded paintings and finished antique woodwork. But what people come here for the most aside from praying is to hear the beautiful choir and it's angelic chants, much like the renown monks in Europe. Definitely a place that is off the beaten track yet a stark contrast to the modern day secular architecture of Chicago's downtown city!

An absolutely stunning church!
We happened to be in the Goose Island neighborhood for lunch and were near this church. We stopped hoping the doors were unlocked...and they were!
The group I was chaperoning filtered inside and made their way around the parish admiring the baroque interior and beautiful architecture.
Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. We were dining at Kendall College and this was a perfect addition to the afternoon.Added August 01, 2016 by Jason King
