    (وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا )

and that 'mosques belong to Allah, so do not invoke anyone with Him' .
The Holy Prophet's Hadith says "For me the entire earth has been made a place of worship and a means of obtaining purity:" Hadrat Sa`id bin Jubair has interpreted masajid to imply the parts of the body on which one prostrates oneself, i.e. the hands, the knees, toes and forehead..

Ibn Qudama al-Maqdisi, the Hanbali imam, stated in his Mughni: [1.1048]

"It is a sunna for the one who enters a mosque not to sit until they pray two rakats before sitting, because Abu Qatada (Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, "If one of you enters the mosque, do not sit until you pray two rakats." [Agreed upon – f: reported by Bukhari and Muslim]
